I don’t normally comment but I haven’t seen a similar theory so here goes. As for the crowd and their masks, I think it represents media, or people as a whole (I’m not quite sure, both seem plausible) A) media condoning bad things happening for success, and the mask showing how fake and stretched the media is. B) people on the whole being capable to push people to awful things (suicide in this case) as they can hide their identity with social media. As for the ending when he fires the gun and there’s an applause, the fact it’s confetti tells me he’s thinking about suicide, the applause being him finally at peace imagining finally being missed.
