In 120V of north America almost all I can see for halogen is half the life of incandescent for same power rating (make sure lamps run on same voltage and light output when comparing). In any case, I filled my table per my local values for my lamps, and some per my taste. you can always adjust the table values to your local numbers and taste and recalculate. LED still will get top point. and who cares if halogen scores a bit higher WHEN LED IS WAY HIGHER ANYWAY! and remember... THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL VIDEO!

as a reptile owner not being able to purchase halogen bulbs makes it very very hard for me. Because I can't purchase them where I live. I need the heat production of traditional incandescent bulbs to actually keep some of them.

The CFL was lauded as the answer to energy saving - it was not. The actual answer is the LED. The BEV is lauded as the answer to exhaust emissions - its not. The actyal answer is hydrogen.

So far I've upgraded our entire 4,000 square foot house to all LEDs a couple years ago and of over 40 LEDs, we've only lost a couple since. Even LED traffic lights in my area have lasted over 10 years without them being replaced.

I agree that LED's are best, but I don't think that incandescents should have been banned by law. The people should choose LEDs of their own volition. The economics of LED lamp manufacturing have improved since warmongering pig Obama banned the incandescent lamp. My first LED bulb was like 30 bucks, but I bought it on the internet before any stores sold them. It's still my favorite bulb and it's heavy af. I'm not sure WHY it's so incredibly heavy compared to my other LED bulbs but meh. I was a huge proponent of LED bulbs back then am still am now. I just don't think that I should be able to force anyone else to use them even though they're environmentally and economically the best choice.

You're a light guy and so I have a light question. I have an old-school lamp that takes 50/100/150 watt incandescent bulbs. When I look for a 3-way LED that can produce an equivalent of 50/100/150 watts, I can find it but it costs $25 for only ONE BULB. Surely there's a better option than this?

I helped setup a rally for Trump and he and his his staff insisted we use HID lighting, idk why, probably what he was used to on the Apprentice. Like LEDS, they are pretty daylight colored(cool/blue), but the bulbs for HID's are super toxic, nothing about what he said made sense.

What you didn't add in was the affect of the radiant heat energy and also the effect of temperature. In a temperate climate, like Canada, the bulb's heat output can be a good thing, at least indoors, in winter. It also creates more of a "warm" environment. On the other hand, fluorescent lights such as in cold temperatures really suck when it comes to light output. Any idea what the energy cost is to manufacture the different light types; eg, cost to the environment of mining the materials? How about the light energy produced versus cost, compared to gas lights, candles, etc.? When the power goes off, then what?

They should put red lights in microscopes and infrared for Xrays pictures...

What about recycling? How much energy it takes and how complex it is to recycle different types of bulbs? How much energy is needed to produce all of the electronic parts inside LED, to mine all of the rare elements? Plastic bulb is better than glass??? Aren't plastic "bad" for the enviroment??? The only drawback of incandescent bulb is heat that most of the year in most of the country we need anyways and will burn some kind of fosil fuel to get that heat instead...so is heat/infrared necessarily bad thing?

@Game and Code Yes, there is infrared It's heat, plain old heat. And source of heat in our homes is often needed to make it comfortable to live in. And heat from electricity is cleanest of all, except the sun itself. You, as alive person, output over 100W of heat, so it would be better for earth if we replace you with some AI robot that will be way more efficient. So in other words the only drawback of old classic bulbs is it makes lots of heat, but cheap as dirt, simple to make and made out of very eco-friendly materials. LED bulbs only advantage is they make less heat(still produce heat, especially cheap overloaded ones), but multiple times more expensive than classic, very complex to make from scratch, very difficult to recycle, containing potentially hazardous elements and ofc plastic.

@Game and Code NO, modern white LEDs use Aluminum galium nitride (blue) with Cerium doped phosphor coating (that yellow stuff you can see inside when looking closely) to convert UV and blue into white-yellowish spectrum. There is also use of other coatings to further adjust wavelength such as manganese doped potassium fluorosilicate.

@Game and Code what about LEDs...gallium, indium, aluminum, arsenide...? Solder (Sn, Pb...) Classic bulb contains: glass, volfram, steel and really nothing else. All three very easy to separate and recycle. Also there is no way to beat full spectrum of incandescent bulb, therefore CRI.

@ElectroBoom Hi, the spectrums you showed between 5:50 and 9:40 are the raw sensor outputs. Ideally you should have used an integrating sphere and calibrated the spectrometer, fiber and sphere using a reference lamp & spectrum. The absolute irradiance tab would have given you the true results. Nevertheless, a good educational video!

CFL sucks, I hate LED even more so. LED bothers my eyes. We had new LED street lights put up, and those things are so damn awful with their blue spectrum. LED is a big no for general lighting, I don't care about the cost savings, its about the warm quality of light I like about incandescent.

Yeah your city probably had some very shitty LEDs' to save on budget. However good LEDs' are not more expensive so I would invest in those, they last longer, more energy efficient, and don't generate as much unnecessary heat.

Problem is, most manufacturers of inexpensive LED bulbs overdrive the LEDs to maximize brightness. This shortens the lifespan of the LEDs and causes higher premature failure rates. This is also true of the small power supplies needed to produce the DC that powers the LEDs. They are often in confined spaces with poor heat dissipation causing premature failures. Overdriving the LEDs also produces more heat which compounds the problems for the power supplies. Buy LED bulbs made by the most reputable manufacturers. You may pay more up front, but they will last longer and make the cost savings of using them better. And, if you live in Dubai, buy the Philips bulbs made especially for you, as they are designed to thwart both of the problems I have outlined above. Check BigClive for more on the Dubai bulbs.

All my celling lights are v high temp, high CR, full spectrum lights. I live in a flat, it allows me to illuminate the dark bits of my flat in the day without it looking nasty. I then have a bunch of low temp warm lamps on uplighters and spots for the evening.

Halogen is still being used in stage lighting applications at established venues because it’s not as simple as swapping out the lamps for LED. You have to buy all-new fixtures and completely overhaul the power supply. For comparison, imagine that if you wanted to switch to LEDs at your house you had to replace all of your ceiling and tabletop lighting fixtures, install a new breaker panel, and re-run all of the electrical cable. Now imagine that on a scale that can easily cost 6-7 figures. Fortunately, practically all new venues are being built with LED in mind.
